Last week it was revealed that accountancy giant KPMG is offering a recruitment programme that could catch on in other professions and universities. The firm plans to help recruit new professionals in order to expand the accountancy profession, and to facilitate this is offering a study course that few students will find hard to resist.

On January 12th 2010, a catastrophic earthquake measuring 7.0 Mw struck the Caribbean island nation of Haiti, killing over 230,000 people. As well as the cost to human life, the quake also caused widespread infrastructural damage, destroying countless homes and businesses. Needless to say, educational establishments did not escape the damage. One year after the quake, we examine how the teachers and students of Haiti have struggled to overcome these setbacks and ensure an education for the young people of the island.

Internships are becoming increasingly important during or after study as part of preparation for the job market. A good degree from a good university is certainly important in today’s employment sector but students are realising more and more that there is often very little substitution for on-the-job training and experience.

The ranking also places the programme among the top 15 in Europe and the School is the only Irish business School listed in this prestigious ranking.

New research released today has shown that UK students from comprehensive schools do better at university than students from private or grammar schools with similar A-level grades.
