HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PALESTINE (HESPAL) SCHEME GETS UNDERWAY

This month saw the first group of Palestinian scholars arrive in the UK under the Higher Education Scholarships for Palestine (HESPAL) scheme. Created by the British Council in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and private sponsors, HESPAL will allow academics from Palestinian universities to complete a year’s postgraduate study at a UK partner university.

24-year-old Melissa Ilboudo – who is studying International Development at the University of East Anglia – was one of 12 regional finalists selected out of 1,300 students from 121 different countries who entered this year’s International Student Awards competition, known as Shine!
