Internships are becoming increasingly important during or after study as part of preparation for the job market. A good degree from a good university is certainly important in today’s employment sector but students are realising more and more that there is often very little substitution for on-the-job training and experience.

Enrolments from Chinese students to US universities rose by almost 30% in the academic year 2009-2010, according to the Institute of International Education’s annual Open Doors report. However, overall the number of international students choosing to study in America rose by only 3% to 690,923 with first-time student figures rising by only 1%. This has prompted concerns that the US may be becoming too reliant on Chinese students.
GRADUATE EMPLOYMENT STATISTICS THROW UP A FEW SURPRISES

According to a recent study, graduate employment universities vary widely depending on the institution. The numbers of graduates in employment range from 100% at The School of Pharmacy to 74.4% at London South Bank University.

For the third year in a row, Ontario’s colleges have experienced a significant increase in first-year full-time enrollment with a 7% increase in 2009, according to figures released today by Colleges Ontario.
