The Guardian newspaper in the UK has released their UK University Guide and league tables for courses starting in 2012, revealing a switch in positions for Oxford and Cambridge.
CHINESE SPEAKERS SHOW OFF THEIR X FACTOR

Students from schools across England and Wales will show off their linguistic skills at the X Factor-style regional heat of the HSBC/British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition at the London School of Economics. The 300 students will compete on Monday 13 December, to win a place in the final at the British Museum in March.
HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PALESTINE (HESPAL) SCHEME GETS UNDERWAY

This month saw the first group of Palestinian scholars arrive in the UK under the Higher Education Scholarships for Palestine (HESPAL) scheme. Created by the British Council in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and private sponsors, HESPAL will allow academics from Palestinian universities to complete a year’s postgraduate study at a UK partner university.
BRITISH COUNCIL LAUNCHES SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PALESTINE

A collaborative effort between the British Council, Consolidated Contractors Ltd., The Arab Palestinian Investment Company, The Pears Foundation and Sir Trevor Chinn is working to provide postgraduate scholarships for Palestinian academics.
