The Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union has announced plans to expand the Erasmus programme to include non-EU countries.

It has emerged that most UK universities will find it near impossible to publish new fees in their prospectuses for the 2012/2013 academic year, due to unclear guidelines about ‘fair access’ agreements in line with the recent decision to raise fees to up to £9,000 a year.

Speaking on BBC Radio 2, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “I hate in politics, as in life, to make promises that you then find you can’t keep… We made a promise we can’t deliver – we didn’t win the election outright and there are compromises in coalition.” The promise of which he speaks has caused tens of thousands of students to take to the streets of Great Britain for a second time today.
