There has been much news recently about how the global economic crisis is affecting higher education. From the recent news in the UK that the number of places for undergraduate students is going to be cut to the reduction in funding for many European universities, the news across the sector has not been good. The latest fear in the US is that research universities are under threat as a result of the recession and social changes.

We are just putting the finishing touches to the new issue of i-studentadvisor UK. In this issue we are featuring a special supplement chapter about Psychology courses in the UK. Official figures show that nationally psychology moved from the 5th most popular undergraduate degree subject in 1996, to the second largest discipline overall in 2007. Postgraduate numbers in psychology have more than tripled in the last 12 years. According to The Royal Society, in 2008 psychology was the largest scientific discipline in the UK.
