Cardiff Business School boosts the Welsh economy by an estimated £76 million a year, according to a new report by the Nottingham Business School into the impact of business schools in the UK.

There has been much news recently about how the global economic crisis is affecting higher education. From the recent news in the UK that the number of places for undergraduate students is going to be cut to the reduction in funding for many European universities, the news across the sector has not been good. The latest fear in the US is that research universities are under threat as a result of the recession and social changes.
CALLS FOR INCREASED FUNDING FOR EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES

There have been calls from the European University Association for increased funding for universities from European governments. The association wants investment in higher education and research to meet the Barcelona target of 3% for higher education and 2% for research as originally proposed by the European Commission.

Swansea University’s planned Science and Innovation Campus at Swansea Bay has been given a massive boost following the announcement of more than £50 million in research and training funding by Rolls-Royce and the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) at a national level.
