Recent UCAS figures have shown that there has been an increase in university applications for the 2011/2012 academic year-the last year before the tuition fee rise.

This month saw the first group of Palestinian scholars arrive in the UK under the Higher Education Scholarships for Palestine (HESPAL) scheme. Created by the British Council in partnership with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and private sponsors, HESPAL will allow academics from Palestinian universities to complete a year’s postgraduate study at a UK partner university.
