IRELAND GUIDE

Ireland is a dynamic, lively, modern country with a young population and a successful, technologically-orientated economy. Yet it remains a country where music, conversation, culture, traditions and time to relax, listen and make friends matters; a country with cultured, cosmopolitan cities and beautiful, unspoiled countryside and scenery.

An English-speaking country

Ireland is an English-speaking country with close educational, cultural and economic links to the English-speaking world, especially with the nearby UK and the USA. This means it is the perfect location for students looking to improve and practise their English language skills whilst studying. Every year, approximately 150,000 students from around the world come to Ireland to benefit from top-quality English language training.

Ireland is considered relatively safe and there is a low level of crime. Personal safety is generally very high. Tourists and international students are welcomed, and the Irish people are regarded as friendly and hospitable.

Culture

Ireland has a rich cultural heritage and a history of innovation. It has been home to many greats including writers Oscar Wilde and James Joyce, and the Nobel Laureate Ernest Walton. Sport and live music are big aspects of the lifestyle in Ireland, and it also has its own Celtic history and language. The majority of Irish people are Roman Catholic, but many other religions are respected and represented. Ireland is relatively small, so travel around the country is fairly easy.

Successful graduates

Graduates from Irish institutions have a history of being innovators in their fields and Irish qualifications are recognised across the world. There is a large range of choices for institutions and qualifications on offer. Ireland is also part of the Europass scheme, allowing EU nationals to show their skills and qualifications effectively across the EU.

Supportive learning environment

There are dedicated international offices throughout Ireland who work with both academic and specialist staff to support students while they are in Ireland, through facilities, services and staff.

Leading global companies in Ireland

Many leading global companies have their European base located in Ireland, such as Google, Facebook, Intel and Apple, to name just a few. Education has close links with industry and has been a key factor over the past decade in making Ireland one of the fastest growing economies in the world.
